Product Description
The owner of this Morris J Van had two pet hates that I had to over come in making these guards. The old hot rod trick of putting in a 2" to 3" wide flat to make the gaurds wider was not acceptable and the guard opening had to follow the tyres.
So with this in mind I went about making a set of mud guards that were to look factory, with nice even curves and to be in proportion to the rest of the car. The pictures showcase the various stages and the finished guards in bare metal and a few pics of the finished car.
In this case the way the mud guards were to be attached to the vehicle meant the most accurate way to make them fit was to construct a wooden buck for each wheel that matched the van body. As the van body was in effect a patchwork quilt, this made the most sense and produced a good outcome. Some original parts of the front gaurds could be used around the head light area and the rear gaurds were totally rolled and formed from scratch in cold rolled mild steel.
Each guard has a 6mm rod formed and completely weld into and around its outer edge to prevent splits.
All metal work shape is finished using the splines technique. This ensures a good shape and flow to the metal work and means anyone using the splines technique to fill, sand and paint the car will have minimal product needed on the body and less sanding time required on it getting it ready for top coat.
I am very proud of these mud guards, I think they set the Van off.
This is not a product - It is an example of our fabrication skills.
Price is indicative per guard, it is a lot of work and I realise not that many can afford the time that goes into making a set of guards like this. All work is done at an hourly rate, plus parts, plus materials.
